My 24th Birthday!

Hmmm..Yesterday is my 24th Birthday!~3rd time having it overseas but 1st time having it cold and lonely.

Working in the morning and luckily having a chance to meet up with my client for a short while so I got a early off~ In the afternoon, my colleagues drove me out to eat the mini dumplings soup that came to my surprise. Before work, I told myself that no matter how I will not take the company lunchbox...then they told me let's eat out! Hahha..but none of them know that yesterday is my bdae!....

Decided to meet my landlord up at night so I just strolled around my client surrounding and didn't realise to walk to the Yunnan Food Street where I got to eat my favourite Uyghur Mutton Kebabs and the naan! Each at RMB3. I grabbed 2 sticks and 1 naan and practically filled my stomach and satisfied my crave! Moving on and passing by Zara, since there was a sale, so walked in and got myself a dark blue cardigan to match my flowery top. My current black cardigan is quite wash-out so my 1st bdae gift! Walking on, Raffles City is just a stone throw away in which had this idea to get myself a slice of secret recipe cake! Went to the shop, in front of me is the neat displays of slices. MmmMmmm...make the decision to get a carrot slice since I had tried the normal slices...shall tried something new!

With that, I headed home to get my parents to sing a Bdae song to me via Skype! Singing...and pretending to wish and blow a fictitious lighted candle indeed delighted me!

Really glad and warm my heart in this chilly weather!

Coincidentally, my neighbour whom is my landlord's eldest sis had her lunar bdae same day as my 'english' bdae! =D hahha!...so ending my day with a homely chat at her house...

And today...then my china manager on seeing my msn status wish me Happy Birthday! Wow..that's indeed very nice of him! as well as today went out to eat a nice lunch + early release from work! So...seem like the 'aftermath' of birthday is well better than the actual day?

24th is indeed only 24 hours. I find it short and how i hope can be longer~~ waiting to have my lunar bdae on the 3rd day of CNY with my family~ =D

Do you know of anyone who collects bones or would like to meet such a person? Why do some people collect things that others deem as junks such as tyres, old banners and the likes of it? What are some of the nostalgic values behind some of the oldest toys ever collected in Singapore & find out the stories behind the production of vintage toys – some of which reflects the economic situation in various eras? Find out more on the Hello Kitty phenomena that once took Singapore by storm!

In our upcoming episode, Mad About Singapore’s Collectors, we take a look at some of the weirdest collections ever made by our Singapore collectors.

About the speakers:
Didier Ng is a creative artist whose artistic works caught the attention of award-winning hospitality brands such as Banyan Tree where her works are sold. Using recycled materials and innovative processes; Didier’s works are both creative & quirky.

Mr Chang is a toys collector whose personal toys collection has span more than 25 countries and over 100 years. He founded the Mint Museum of Toys, which houses a fraction of his toy collections. Be inspired and feel nostalgic by the rich display of the toy showcase in the museum. This includes limited collections of Tin Tin toys, Popeye & other vintage collectables.

Mr Bony Sim collects bones as a hobby. His collections, which include monkey & wild boar skulls, are part of his educational tools. Established as Uncle Bony’s Outdoor lab, the skeletons are used during educational talks, which he frequently conducts at schools.

Ms Sherri Tan is a mechanical engineering student at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) & is a huge fan of Hello Kitty. She has been collecting the Hello Kitty merchandise since she was in primary four.

LDP CNY cum Graduation Dinner - Journey in LDP

(adapted part of my informal 'speech') Way back in the year 2007, I graduated from my course, Quality Management & Engineering in Ngee Ann Polytechnic. I was waiting anxiously for my results from NTU & NUS applications. Right then, I applied for my desired course, Industrial Management in NUS (1st choice for NUS). My 2nd choice for NTU Mechanical Engineering (which is 1st choice for NTU). The results are out… I was not offered Industrial Management instead Business Administration. And I know this course is rather hard to get in as the poly students would know need at least a gpa of at least 3.6/4.0 to get in. NTU gave me my 1st choice, Mechanical Engineering. This course would only need a gpa 3.2/4.0 to get in.

So, I went for the MAE Welcome talk and get to know about LDP. After talking to Prof Chui about LDP, I decided to give up Business in NUS in which all my friends objected my decision. They scolded me why give up such a good course for a lousy course! And NUS is way better than NTU… Then, I didn’t regret the choice I made.

On the few week of school in NTU, I was sick and my close friends went to NTU MSE/EEE, NUS or SMU courses. I had my poly coursemates with me but our timetable turned out to be different. I couldn’t catch fully what the lecturers taught as I was from a non-mechanical background in which worsen my illness. I think I’ve mild depression where I cried every night.

Ahhh! Then, I received an email from MAE office for the invitation to join LDP and attended the LDP Introductory Talk. Back then, I think my benefactor is Susan. She was kind enough to give me her hp no. during Orientation Day. I got to know from her the information about LDP and schoolwork via sms. With her support and my friends’ support, I decided to fight against stress and persist on. I applied and got into LDP after the interview. And that’s how I am there for the Orientation!

After recess week, I did have the thought of giving up my university education. Guess what? Project L.O.V.E 2007 to Neijiang China gave me the strength to continue as NTU is not always about studying; I could enrich myself with other activities. Yuli who was the Asst. Team Leader for Project L.O.V.E 2007 offered to help me with my modules before exams and I managed to clear my exam. My 2nd benefactor! The Project L.O.V.E team gave me the opportunity to be part of the secretarial team. It’s indeed a team of love as what I have seen. Everyone works closely like a big family. And that’s when I get to know more LDPians besides Susan and Yuli. During the trip, the team was bonded more closely.

Unlike my 1st community service trip to Thailand during my poly days, we were treated as adults and leaders. In the different departments and the group collaborations of classroom teaching and science exhibitions, we are expected to initiate and take the lead to come out with the best plan. “We’re old enough to think for ourselves!” that was muthiah and jarrod’s favourite phrase. The 2 leaders only reminded us the rules and regulations for only once. Then, we must uphold their trust on us. Effective decision-making and communication skills were practiced during nightly short meetings. I still remember the serious case of ‘students requested for autographs’. Technically, we shouldn’t give the autographs as it would affect our plan. Muthiah brought up his view - we should! as we could give hope to each of them to work hard! One by one, all state our views. Our decision is that we would only give autographs after our science exhibitions. And definitely, not forgetting the experience of the local culture eg the nice nice food & warm hospitality and backpacking R & R experience.

My next project is my own department, T & D project, Coaching workshop conducted by LDP seniors lead by Kelly (who was the T & D dept head). I had to work with a completely different team and also the very very experienced seniors. It was my 1st workshop but not the usual one as in engaging external trainers but getting our very own LDP trainers. The whole course benefitted me a lot in the way of learning what is coaching, learning the various presentation styles from the seniors, pick up a new set of team management and knowing more LDPians.

In Yr 3, I took up the LDP main com post as Honorary General Secretary and initiated the UNI-For-The-New-U Programme. It was a programme being adapted from the previous committee tutoring sessions for polytechnic students. We had weekly tutoring and also mass lectures for the yr 1 and yr 2 direct entry students. Aside from these, we had an recess week event of having the honor to invite Prof Chou to share his studying skills when he was a student and the yr 3 & 4 to share on their exchange and OIA experience. The programme was then carried to Peer tutoring under Kok Hou and his acad dept. The whole project was a success and I was fortunate to have Rudy Herianto as my asst team leader who helped and supported all along.

Top on of that, I also took up Vice-Chairperson in NTUSU BP Mentoring. In the post, I did apply what I have learnt in LDP especially the operational model in LDP in having workshops to train my mentors. (speak abt photos) Then, my batch of LDPians were just like me taking up main committee positions like Susan took up President for LDP and Vice-President for Food Aprecio Club, Xie Wei - Vice President for Toastmasters’ Club, He Shu - Vice-President for MAE Club, Bao Shin – IT Director for Investment Interactive Club, Boon Yen – PR Asst Head for LDP, Yee Loong – Centre Head for WSC RSP and Yan li & Boon Inn - the few LDP events IC There were also some who had stepped down from their posts like Yuli – Vice President for LDP & Project L.O.V.E 2007 asst team leader, Yiliang – PR Head for LDP, Kelly – T & D head for LDP, Jason - Hon gen for Hall 16 JCRC, Parvathy - Treasurer for LDP & Project L.O.V.E 2007 team leader

As a hon gen, I made the efforts to know at least 80% of all LDPians since I was the ‘spammer’ to inform of events and workshops. That’s when I was even closer to LDPians. I always maintain my beautiful attendance close to 100% in LDP activities to set a good model to all and always fulfilling my job as a hon gen to take attendance.

Then, I continued to join Project L.O.V.E 2008 to Baray, Cambodia and until the recent Project L.O.V.E 2009 to Wenxian County, China (speak about the photos). Hahha! I was wondering who can break my consecutive records for Project L.O.V.E(s)!

Besides that, we, the LDPians also initiated our very own outings like Homestay trips in Malaysia and China, Tioman snorkeling trip, impromptu JB trips and in the recent weekly badminton sessions at this function hall! ~~LDP events and private bonding events…

My NTU life evolves round LDP so I was wondering what my life would be without LDP! My story is just a chapter out of many other chapters of stories to be shared by my fellow graduating LDPians. Do take your time to hear from them of how we benefit from LDP, what activities we will miss after we left... and I think we all are going to miss LDP Room the most! The place where we study, we mug, we spend our short breaks in between lectures, we cook supper and desserts, we play games, we sleep, we have meetings, we HTHT, we get to know more LDPians and many more…

On behalf of the Graduating LDPians, I would like to say a big thanks to LDP for giving a whole list of wonderful memories and equipped us with skills to prepare us for our future career. Also a big thanks to all Professors who assisted us especially Prof Chou who see us grow in LDP. Also a big thanks to the LDP committee for planning our graduation dinner very well! And to the juniors, do cherish your moments with LDP and I believe you might benefit more than me!

My 23rd Birthday!

This year seem to a year full of surprises with 63 facebook wall bdae wishes + 5 email bdae wishes + 30 sms bdae wishes + lot of verbal wishes! 1 cake cutted on 29/01 & 2 cakes cutted on 31/01 and all 3 cakes came to me of a total surprise to me!

I organised a Room Warming Party with my uni clique, LDPians on 29th Jan 2010 before the weekend march in! We've a Night Picnic Session behind SSC (by the walkway) just in front of the scenic night scene from NTU to jurong Island! Ramanan had to leave just when we started the picnic and the crowd started to get bigger with more ldpians joining in. Sitting by the picnic mats were...Sean, Roy, Zhimin, Jasmine, Hui Qun, Yun Qing, Gerry, Ma Jie, Xie Wei, He Shu, Boon Yen, Yuli, Shah Kiat and Swee Tim! I had prepared my only-know-how-to-bake-that brownies with vanilla ice-cream (in which goes with sean's vodka is nice nice), cakes, titbits, ice lemon tea-ju hua tea-green tea drinks, my favourite brown brother dessert/light wine, a whole chicken and ... Eating and chatting with the light breeze blowing onto our faces! so nice! Sean also dare me to pop a 1/4 cup full of gin in! I did it but it was 'spicy' as in burining my throat! Soon grace here with her handmade cookies and a pack of biscotti for me too! And the climate came when Christopher (little chris) and Huang Xu appeared with a bengawan solo coffee cake with lighted candles from the back! Ahhhh! Surprises! I really didn't foresee this will take place. Indeed, touched my heart! And all of them sang the bdae songs in english, chinese & malay...My smile was like swaying from right to left trying to give the biggest and nicest smile to appreciate everyone efforts while trying my very best to keep my tears inside the eyes. In LDP tradition set last year, the bdae girl/boy must sing bdae song to themselves! So...Happy Birthday to me...and so more...! After the caking cutting ceremony, everyone ate the cake and soon let's pack and go on to the next programme! Some have to leave...

We then marched to my Hall 4 Room through the SSC stairway, along the nanyang lake and in front of Yunnan Garden and still up the stairs to the 5th level! Here my room! I've prepared the lucky draw presents from 1st to 10th prizes. Here we were...getting the excited abt which prizes they were getting just like X'mas! After that, all simply just chill-out at the room with HTHT session and susan came! Abt 1.30pm we went back our room and i got my new roomie for the night, Yan Li! hahaha!

On the actual day (31/01), I decided to turn up for the NYC camp Day 2. And didn't expect them to have a bdae celebration for the bdae babies! So the whole camp sang bdae song to me and another girl from other group! Before that, at the introduction session with my fantastic team, Rojak, everyone reveal their age... and I announced:" Since you are turning 21 this coming date...I'm 23 today!" in which shocked all of them! I didn't regret going to the camp as it was so much fun. My team excel in a team planning exercise of planning a 6 mth activities with a beneficary and getting a sponsor of $5,000 in just 3 hours.

After the camp, heading home and after mummy's home-cooked dinner with a range of my favourites, Zhimin appeared with Kailin and Norman with a cake at my doorsteps! Wow! That's the 3rd surprise! And ahhh! Chocolate Indulgence! my 2nd favourites of four leaves cakes! 1st is Coco Delight. They really shock me! Kailin and Norman went off 1st and me and zhimin had HTHT session! She also helped me to design my Guestbook for my Room Warming.

All should be curious why I try to discourage the idea of bdae gift giving after 21st bdae. To me, I feel after the large expenses for 21st bdae gifts to friends...there's no need to give anymore as all are grown-ups adults le! Jus a simple dinner or a simple cake or preferrably a simple card...will have the same effects as the gfts! This gift-giving culture might worsen friendships in a long term...I mean to me....! hahah!

All in all, I've a happy satisfying excellent marvellous fantastic 23rd Birthday! Really enjoyable, really surprising, really interesting and really touching! =D Thanks each and everyone!

Project L.O.V.Es...The 1st time(s)

In particular to this year Project L.O.V.E, I've a lot of 1st time experiences:

*this blog contents came directly from my journal written during the trip.

1) Accumulated 38 hours of long distance bus ride: Taking a 15 hours bus trip to Wenxian County + 15 hours also back to Chengdu + 4 hours to Jiu Zhai Gou Lake + 4 hours back to Wenxian County

2) Taking a travelling bus with 3 rows of double-decker beds and no shoes allowed!

3) Host got us a nice hotel to stay in which is the nicest out of the 3 other trips that I went! This gave us energy to conduct the community work everyday.

4) Getting winter clothings (2 jackets for $30+ each after discount, 2 long john with 10% cashmere at RMB 158 each for myself and aunt)

5) Jiu Zhai Gou Lake is a magnificient tourist site in which everyone is bewildered by its natural beauty especially the 'cool beauty' in the winter

6) Try a lot of local dishes and my favourites are xue mo (a dish whereby fried slices of pig blood mixed with wheat flour is cooked with pork), xiao long buns, chuan shao (bbq sticks of delicacies like satay - especially bbq rabbit meat and mutton), tang bao (soup dumplings) and more...

7) Very hungry until very full due to the warm hospitality from the hosts to treat us 20 course meals

8) Join the rocket team for the school mass experiments out of the 3 Project L.O.V.Es

9) teaching with George (from India) and Ma Jie (from China)

10) following freshies (Christopher, Jean, George & Swee Tim) for Project L.O.V.E 2009 'extend' and definitely extend the trip from 10 days to 14 days

11) Visit friend's house in China and eat with his parents and the friend is Yunqing! His house is just like the 4 or 5 rooms flat or condo style apartment.

12) Taking a 4 hrs 'hard seat train' and slept very badly. The seat is 90 deg and with a bit of cushion.

13) Taking a 12 hrs 'hard bed train' and slept very well! In each carriage, there should be about 8 - 10 rows of 'thrice'-decker beds

14) Compensate S$90 for the 'extend' by changing the date of the air tickets but it's super worthwhile!

15) Get to know friends on the train and really becomes very good friends! They are Xiao Sa & Sis Hai Yan) They are so kind to bring us around.

16) Adding Chongqing and Xi'an to my list of 'Places I have travelled'

17) Eating a wide variety of fast food like KFC, MacDonalds, Subway, Bestfood...(very different from singapore like they use chilli powder instead of chilli sauce and KFC got egg tarts)

18) Taking public bus in Xi'an and have to pay the conductor the bus fare. By taking the public buses, a lot of tourist destinations are 'reachable' with cheap bus fare!

19) Surprised to discover they also have so called 'the ez-link card system'

20) Taking 2 connecting flights to (SG -> KL -> Chengdu) and fro with 3 connecting flights (Xi'an -> Chengdu -> KL -> SG)

21) been to 3 train stations in China (Chengdu, Chongqing and Xi'an)

22) seen muslims in China and been to muslim street in Xi'an

23) took a taxi to airport at RMB 140

24) miss flight from Xi'an to Chengdu! Mighty Chris manage to get the next hour flight tickets for us at no extra costs incurred after begging the airline staffs. And none of us are angry or anxious. Guess what! We are excited that we miss flight and it's the 1st time in our lives!

25) rush within half-an-hour to check-in for flight (Chengdu to KL) after alighting from another plane (Xi'an to Chengdu) and we make it!

26) Taking China Eastern Flight in which it's rather shaky but supply bottled drinks and hot tea

27) Christmas Day Countdown on the Airasia Plane and especially the plane is inclined to take-off!

28) Christmas Exchange (proposed by jean) on the plane & on the day itself (just nice at 12am+)

29) a lot & a lot of H-T-H-T sessions throughout the whole trip!

30) overturn a plane set meal & was offered a crew meal for free!

31) try airasia plane mel sets - Smoked BBQ and Chicken Rice

32) twice on AirAsia new plane, AirAsia XL with touch screen TVs & confortable leather seats

Day 1 - Travelling from Singapore to Chengdu via 2 plane-trips and stayed overnight at Chengdu near the bus station
Day 2 - Travelling from Chengdu to Wenxian by travelling bus with double-decker beds for 15 hours
Day 3 - Reaching Wenxian. Meeting the education board officers and personnels for media conference and then have cultural exchange with wenxian no. 1 sec sch
Day 4 - English teaching & Science exhibitions at 2 schools - bailin sec sch & another sec sch
Day 5 - Giving out stationery kits and thick thermo blankets to the students in Guan Jia Gou pri sch + cultural exchange with them. Also, visit the nearby houses to give away thermo blankets. In the afternoon, engish teaching & science exhibitions at Cheng Guan no. 1 pri sch

Day 7 - English Teaching & Science Exhibitions at Cheng Guan no. 2 pri sch
Day 8 - R & R at Jiu Zhai Gou Lake
Day 9 - Travelling from Wenxian to Chengdu via the 15 hours bus trip
Day 10 - Exploring Chengdu by going to Wu Hou Shrine, Jin Li street, Poet Du Fun garden, Kuang Zhai Alley, Panda Breeding Ground and Chun Xi Road. At night, rush for train to Chongqing and slept on hard upright seats
Day 11 - Arrive at Chongqing and sleeping at Yunqing's house a while then move on to a delicious lunch with yunqing's family. Then, we go for a city tour before catching the 12-hour train ride to Xi'an
Day 12 - Reaching Xi'an in the early morning. Check-iin hotel and begin the tour to Terractta warriors, Qin Emperor tombhill and the underground look of it, largest musical fountain in front of the big wild goose pagoda in asia and the muslim street
Day 13 & 14 - Visit to Shaan xi musuem, tour around big wild goose pagoda area and muslim street and then rush to the airport taking 3 connecting flights to Singapore.

Recess Week Tioman Getaway Day 2 & Day 3

Awakened by the break of daylight... Breakfast time! We had scrambled eggs, baked beans and toasted bread with butter and jam. A warm cup of tea or coffee do energise the sleepy minds of ours.

We would be following the resort schedule for the 2nd day. At 10.30am, all of us gathered at the bench to learn about snorkeling - how to wear and adjust the mask with the mouthtube, how to wear and adjust the life jacket, how to empty the water that get into the mask, how to breath through mouth, what is the posture that we must keep to stay afloat...etc! The uncle was very nice to teach us. His idea of using bottles to stuff pieces of bread in to feed the fishes amazed me. The bread will not melt away from the hand and would be able feed the fishes bit by bit.

the briefing

Walking to the jetty and get on the speedboat, we were ready for the exploration! The wind that gushed to our faces and the bumping effect of the boat brought us up the graph of excitement!

1st stop - We reached another jetty. The huge, beautiful and colourful fishes surprised us! Can't wait to jump in and say hi to them! We all went down. As for me, I discovered I had difficulties to use my mouth to breathe. Over there, I had been trying hard to learn. Indeed, my hardwork pay off and I get to enjoy the scenic view under the sea! Besides fishes and coral, we spotted sea urchins! We had our lunch by the jetty with the little cats after a few hours of snorkeling.

2nd stop - we moved on to the duty-free shop where we get our souvenirs. As we was walking to the duty-free shop, we spotted something black hanging on the trees. Getting closer to investigate, we discovered they are fruit bats! So coolz of them to hang upside down and sleeping away... We bought our souvenirs and move onto another site for snorkeling...

3rd stop - The boat stopped near to a small island full of bushes. From there, we will start off our 'advanced' level of snorkeling! The view under the sea is magnificient. It was just like watching discovery channel live! A lot of fishes...I love it when I hold the bottle of bread and the fishes just follow me. The awesome sights of sophicated corals and the schools, schools of variours breeds of fishes and the small surprises like sea urchins make me think upon how magical the underwater world is!

Returning back to our house, the sky started to turn dark and dizzled... At the point, rudy and the guys went to borrow the guitar. We sang and chatted until dinner time...

At night, we had our last session of HTHT with titbits...

and 3rd day.. a group of us left early back to singapore.

I had really enjoyed myself! and I do encourage my friends to go there!

Recess Week Tioman Getaway Day 1

A getaway trip to relief all the stress before going into 2nd term marching toward exams!

On the SBS bus to Larkin

It was indeed a fun trip especially going with the LDPians (me, susan, shah kiat, rudy, bao shin, roy & aikling)! The organiser was shah kiat and as for me, I helped him in getting participants. Initially, we had 9 but xie wei and yee loong dropped out so we were left with 7. Nevertheless, we are not affected by the loss of participants!

On the bus to Mersing

Let's march there! Kee Kiat helped us to get bus tickets to Mersing for the departure timing at 8.30am. Everyone met at 7am at the Singapore Customs and take SBS bus to Larkin Bus Terminal. After a hearty Macdonalds breakfast, we hopped up the luxury bus at the price of RM11.50 only! About 2 hours, we reached the Mersing Bus Terminal. Taking a cab at the price of only RM5 per person, we managed to rush for the departing ferry!

We were seated at the front of the ferry and the chilled air was full-blasted at us! Oh mine...so cold!! There are 5 stops at Tioman Island and our resort is at the last stop. Roughly 2 hours, we then reached the right jetty!

Wowo...! We are so amazed by the different gradients of turquoise of the sea. The clear water revealed the underwater live scenes - big schools of fishes, beautiful corals, huge living seaweed and even saw a swordfish? Quick! let's look for the resort we are staying - Salang Beach Resort!

As we walked along the seaside to find our resorts, we could feel the light breeze and the lay-back lifestyle at this island... We are happy to know that this is a low peak for tourism so there's ain't many tourists so... Yea! Do not need to queue or squeeze through the crowd!

Checking into our room... We never expect such a big bed and a clean and neat toilet! After lunch, we went 'swimming' at the beach with our goggles. Little can I imagine, the water was shallow enough to see the corals and the little fishes swimming at the coral. We enjoyed our 1st day afternoon by swimming above the corals, through the school of fishes, visiting barnacles by the jetty, spotting sea cucumbers and floating on the green crystal clear sea! What a relaxing activity to be done!

Getting ourselves clean and ready for dinner! To our surprise, the dinner consists of a preserved veggie omelette, fried diced chicken with a special sauce topped with sesame, fried fish fillets, braised tofu with minced meat, sambal kangkong and tom yam soup! Indeed a sumptous dinner! A slow stroll down the coast where we could visit the shops to get souvenirs and ice-cream... Before we went back to our 'house', we had a supper by the sea. Last item for the day is Heart-to-Heart talk initiated by rudy...haha!

After stepping down from the main-com positions from my cca(s), I'm trying hard to adjust to the 'hard-core' muggin' habitat since it's my last 1 km to complete the degree paper chase. It is really hard for me as I'm been leading a exciting schooling life without being tied down by books. So far, my results slip show no 'F' and no warning letters were being mailed to me.

I've been putting efforts to read notes and do tutorials after the busy week 2 for cca booths tending. The results of this is slow but showing a slight slight improvement. Still a long long way to go! Hope I don't stress myself....

I'm taking Malay Language Level 1 as my elective. 5 cores + 1 elective will make it 17 AUs. Not considered heavy and have to start on my 10 AUs FYP soon!

Recruitment talks and industrial visits are very favourite activities as many of my friends know that I love to go for workshops and talks! Not for the goodie bags or the sumptuous buffet spread athough they are indeed important...It's nice to attend talks to know more about the company, what they offer and how the speaker present... As we are stepping into the workforce, I feel it's good to increase knowledge on the workforce especially when you are networking. For example, you met someone and he's from a company named ABC engineering. In many circumstances, many people might be wondering what is this company doing and the history... It's a fantastic way to impress people if you know the company no matter how small the size or length of history.

MINDS Event at Bishan Park!

it's 1st time joining a MINDS event. MINDS = Movement for Intellectually Disabled of Singapore. So far, I did volunteer to mentor/help out childrens, teenagers and elderly. I'm very excited to observe the volunteer program in MINDS!

This event is to engage the trainees (beneficiaries) with the trainers and external volunteers through games and bonding sessions. Through this event, I realise the trainees have their own thinking and talents too! However, they require a lot of attention from us to observe what they need and get them to be involved in games. Patience is a must to listen to them and talk to them...

All in all, I love my trainee, yoke liang! He always repeats my questions and hyper active at all times. He is actually very independant and could take care of himself!

I've watched a 2008 Japanese short drama, Absolute Boyfriend (Zettai Kareshi) and a 2 yrs ago hot favourite Taiwan drama, 命中注定我爱你 Fated to Love You.

Both are so nice...!

Zettai Kareshi shows the true love between a human, Riko Izawa and a robot lover, Tenjo Night. The love story is exceptional touching with the strong love and devoted care from Night move undecisive Riko... I also love the cakes exhibited in the drama especially the cream puffs made by Riko! The robot creation could give the engineering students a dream to create one like Night! MmmmMmmm... Worth to invest your time in this short serials!

命中注定我爱你 is a romantic comedy driving at the start of a beautiful mistake. Chen Hsien Yi is the office girl who offers her help unconditionally to make others happy. Have you ever count how many pairs of shoes do you have?

One of my friends ask me this as he posted this question to his female friend and received a stunning stunning answer! Guess what is his female friend's answer? She said:" I don't know!" After a while, she announced the shocking figure to him. "50 pairs!"

Wow!!! Wow!!! Stunned? Girls, I don't think you should be taken aback. Go and count your pairs of shoes (including those 'not in use' and a bit spoilt)... Guys, I think you will sure to lose out in this competition!

Consumer Reports Research Center states that women own an average of 19 pairs of shoes. Check out this website by clicking here! Shoes have many different types even a simple pair of slippers have many types.

I, myself possess a total of 13 pairs (so i'm below average?). I've 2 pairs of flip-flops, 1 pair of sandals (look like birkenstock but cheaper type), 1 pair of heels, 1 pair of covered heels, 2 pair of normal shoes (1 not in use), 1 pair of sports sandals, 1 pair of running shoes, 3 pairs of ballerina shoes and 1 pair of strapped flats.

Wow...I think everyone thought I've given up with blogging? No...

I'm currently busy with my 5.5 mths of Industrial Attachment that will end in the beginning of June'09.

The small factory employed 15 NTU interns! 3 NYP students just left in the early quarter of '09 and 2 NYP students jus came.

And let's me show you my IA gang! None of us know each other even though we are like 'coursemates' that sat in the same lecture theatre for 2 yrs! Most of them are from JC, some from poly, most from s'pore, one from m'sia, some stay halls (hostel), some stay hall 17 (home), some have CCAs, some are jus slackers, some are confirmed 1st class honours holders, some not even reaching honours...but our common identity is we are NTU students! And we are seriously very very close with one another!

One of us recently kicked off with a excel chat to cast a safety net in case being caught red-handed for doing what we shouldn't do! We do have a facebook group strictly for the interns/students. For every lunches and breaks, we tried to be together...even on the way to work on the company bus and off work on the company bus to je station!

Project L.O.V.E 2008 - My Reflection

Starting off as a small member in the secretarial team for Project L.O.V.E 2007, I didn't realize I had eventually gone through Project L.O.V.E 2008 and awaiting for a new committee to take over for Project L.O.V.E 2009. Both trips are experiential especially the recent one.

In the stage of planning & preparation, I assisted in the secretarial work of the team as well as helping out in the activities. The secretarial job scopes indeed expose me to the operating styles of the other departments of the project and have a chance to try out fund-raising activities. Out of all the fund-raising activities, flea market is the most memorable as I initiated it but had a hard time to get buyers due to the lack of experience in beautifying the shop front.

The best experience that I had is from the trip itself.

The living conditions of the locals are worse than what I have thought of. During the road trip to Baray, we had a quick view of the locals staying under a grassy roof, 'grassy walls' and on shaky stills. When we were out for tasks, we took a close view of how they live their days with no hot water, insect-infested house and environment, dirty drinking and washing water and no lights in the night time (unless they buy car battery to generate electricity). Unlike Singapore, they do not have street lights, TV sets, computers, proper flooring, comfortable sofa sets, proper roads proper roofs and more of the basic items that we had. This made me treasure what I possess

Although they are living in a poor state, most of us are being warmly welcome with smiles. The locals are very friendly and cheerful. Nothing of us is faced sulky faces during our home visits or when we happen to meet any of them on the streets. Any help that we need, they would be more than happy to render their assistance. This gave me a lesson that poverty does not mean taking everything away from you; one's happiness shall be fought upon.

I was taught not to take things for granted. The roads we built, although they are not a good quality, are highly appreciated by the locals. These were the same as the well pavements and roofs. I had never realised how hard is it to build and maintain the roads and houses.

By working with my teammates and the local people, I had learnt to take advice and not to let things go on my way. A pair of ears that listen to good advices will carry one far off!

All in all, I really love this trip! Live simply, eat simply, dress simply and definitely a simple happiness! Happiness from helping people is definitely more satisfying than having something expensive. The memories and friendship forged will stay with me forever!

Removing my dressing!

AHHH!!! My thumb! My poor thumb! My mummy advices me to remove my dressing so to let my skin receive some moisture and air to speed up the healing process.

Caution: They are a bit gross~

The holes are where the surgical threads weaving through. The blue marks are drawn by the surgical marker before the operation and that shows how 'lasting' is the ink!

Last Visit to NUH!

This is the 2nd time seeing my thumb 'bare' after the surgery. The 1st is to change the heavy bandage to light dressing. The 5 stitches are still there and would be removed! As the doctor says, my thumb is healing well and no need to return for checkup!

The nurse removes my stitches and dresses up again. In 2-3 days time, I can really see my thumb! Now, I have to try to utilise my right thumb as it is not in used for 2 weeks+. It is now very stiff... Great! I can write and lead a 'normal' life without a 'thumb-up'!

Reflection...

One always let what you're strong at override what you really want to do but weak at. Just like your right hand and your left hand. Knowing your hand is strong at everything, your left hand just play a supporting role. Until the strong fall, depending on other one; that's when the other one can take up the role of being the strong one (but not as 100% capable). Doing what it always want to and never get a chance to. I believe to give it time, the other one can perform as well as the strong one. ~~~

LDP Countdown Party

Hmm...don't really have any photos...but I can narrate!

As usual, we had steamboat at Susan's hall 16 tv lounge. Attending are: me, yanli, susan, siewping, kelvin, chungseng, diming, chongchin, muthiah, wei soung and kengfei! daryl and serene will be joining us later...

We left hall 16 for LDP room after watching my 'little nonya' tv drama for MOVIE MARATHON! Wow...! The last time I had this is in my polytechnic a couple of years ago. A few friends and I were planning for MDES to raise funds. Settling down in LDP Room with titbits and drinks, we started to choose the movie title to watch. Guess what we watch? After discussing quite some time, kelvin suggested 'Seven Pounds', a newly released movie. A unanimous response from everyone was for the movie!

We countdown to 2009 in LDP Room, in the midst of the movie. Then, we went out to Carpark F. And we spotted fireworks from 2 far-off locations. Is it the one at Marina Bay/Jurong Point? Wow... It was beautiful and awesome!!! with sparklers too! Then, we went 'night-walk' around. I didn't realise there is a Sundial infront of SAO!

We went back to LDP Room to continue with the show. After Seven Pounds, some left and we continued with Superheroes then Mad Money... Wow...it's going to 6pm. The last few surviving ones are me, susan and yanli. Reserving the last bit of energy, we wanted to watch the very 1st sunrise of 2009! We had a hasty preparation of pancakes and heading to Nanyang House fast!

It was cloudy so the sun took a while to appear in full circle! With the good and sleepy experience, all of us headed back home and shall meet again during LDP Camp!

Removing the Heavy Bandage...

In the 3 days after my surgery, get-well wishes from family and friends came in; flooding my handphone and online applications. Really thanks for that! Really touched me and support me through the painful moments! Guess what! I only consumed 2 paracetamol (mild painkiller)!

Yea...Great! Finally, my heavy bandage can be removed! Only covered the stitched area - which is my thumb. I was given a long period of hospitalisation leave from 23rd dec until 14th jan! The next appointment on 9th jan, the stitches will be removed.

The removal of bandage...is quite scary! The nurse took out a pair of big scissors and weave it through the bandage... Then, she took off everything on my hand, exposing my wound. Finally, I see my wound across my thumb! It was about 2.5 cm long (use your ruler to help you see the measurement). Before it was been cleaned and 'wrapped' up again, the doctor came to examine the wound. During our 'few-minutes' conversation, I discovered she was actually the one 'cutting' up my thumb! She looked different in her normal outfit from the surgeon outfit!

Let's me show you how my thumb look like now:

Much better than the heavy bandage which 'disables' my right hand. Now I can use my right 4 fingers!

I didn't take picture of how the stitches on my wound were like...but it's something like what I've drawn...

These are the 3 points where the anesthatic jabs went through! Ouch!! And the area here swelled up to numb all nerves.

Thumb Surgery at NUH

Have anyone had heard of thumb surgery? Here I am going through it!

The story goes... my thumb had a mysterious growth at the soft spot and had been growing for 2-3 months... my mum suspected that this is due to excessive smsing and typing on laptop...

I got a referral letter from polyclinic to NUH after seeing the doctor. This is when I knew it was that serious... I got a shock from the doctor in NUH when he revealed that I was required to go for surgery! He suspected that it was a normal growth, commonly known as tumour... He felt that this should be a benign one.

And... on 23rd December 2008, 9.20am, I went through the 1st surgery in my life! The full name of my surgery is Excision Biopsy Right Thumb PVNS. Estimated time of the surgery is 30 -45 mins. After registering at the reception area at the Day Surgery Centre with my nric, medisave and medishield forms, I was admitted for surgery. As a patient, I was required to be dressed in the patient robe (any external clothing had to be removed; bra and underwear were included too). Luckily, my mum was with me so all my stuffs were in good hands.

Getting dressed in my 'new clothing', a group of final year medical students was waiting to observe my 'pregnant' thumb (that's the name I gave to my thumb with the growth). Here... my thumb take turns to be observed by the medical students. The time was about 8.45am... half an hour + to my surgery!

Around 9.10am, the surgery nurse came to fetch me into the surgery suite. I had to declare that I'm not carrying any metallic items, dentures and accessories...At the waiting area to the surgery suites, she re-confirmed my particulars and get me to put on a green 'shower cap' to prevent any germs from my hair to get into the 'dirt-free' environment.

And...Here I am in the surgery suite with soft music played in the background! Haha... the staffs there were friendly and fun! That indeed calm my nervous cells... I was asked to lie on the bed the very moment I entered the suite. The most painful part came... The anaesthetic jabs! The large needles went through my thumb thrice and filled the areas with anaesthetics to numb my thumb during operation. Blood was flowing from the 3 points of injections... scary moment...!

A bowl of warm iodine solution showed up besides me. 2 cotton pieces were soaked in and dabbed about my whole hand. It was like marinating my whole right hand. This step is crucial to exterminate any bacteria & germs that would get into my open wound.

Just before 'cutting my thumb', I was covered up until my neck (for me to breathe)to prevent the gross sight before my eyes. Since, I was only numb at my thumb, I am able to look up to the ceilings and also overhear the conversation of the surgeons and nurses. Just a little thumb, it required i think 3 surgeons and 3 nurses...!

I did overhead that they took out a marble-sized growth from my thumb! That's interesting! The growth will be sent for testing to see if it's cancerous or benign. Around 10.15am, the surgery ended... The surgeon sent me out to the waiting area to change back to my clothing and wait patiently for my medicine to kill the pain. Waiting for near to an hour,

The experience was indeed rare and exciting! I doubt anyone'll have this small-scale and short surgery like me! =D

This week supposes to be the hard mugging week before the examinations start off! For some of us who are going for Project L.O.V.E 2008 (Heading to Cambodia), it's our injection week. Lucky for me, I had taken Tetanus jab during my 1st community service trip to Chiangmai, Thailand. So, I'm left with Typhoid and Flu jab. All in all, we had 3 jabs to take this week + doctor consultation for malaria immunisation.

As for me, I went for Typhoid ($25) and Flu jab ($35) at once. Each on each arm! Ouch! As well as, consulting for the malaria immunisation ($6) . I was issued the Typhoid certification to work in food industries up to the span of 3 years.

Great! Settled all the jab matters in one shot! All the best to my groupmates who are going for the 3rd jab! =D

Esplanade - Moonfest 2008

Melissa and I went to help out at the Esplanade Moonfest 2008 for the Lantern Walkabout programme. The elderly of various constituencies and those from old aged home joined in this meaningful walk where they are being brought back their childhood memories of walking about with a traditional candlelit lantern. We are in charge of a jovial group of elderly from de jiao elderly condo.

Finally the long awaited Recess Break is here!

Shall plan my week well; Acad 1st!

Mon: Jus got a sms from Ichi about meeting the teacher-in-charge for Jurong West Pri Sch maybe in the early afternoon... Then at night. I'll be having WSC thank you dinner at the NTU alumni place...

Tue: Ichi will be going alone to meet the teacher-in-charge for Pioneer Sec Sch but I'm meeting the social sect & SPO on the day.

Wed: Might be involved in the NTUSU SIEC bonding game....if not, should be able to devote the whole day to study...

Thurs: In the early afternoon, I might be joining the WSC gathering before the Baray Networking session for ladies at Raffles Quay, going with Dawn. Then, I got to rush for WSC Boys' Hostel session as it's my tutee's last session before he's discharged.

Fri: My long awaited UNI-For-The-NEW-U special session whereby we combined the tutoring session and special programme for the freshies. The programme includes study skills talk, GIP/OIA/Exchange sharing from LDP seniors =D Then, maybe go shopping with Susan!

Tues: meeting prof to ask questions on heat transfer since CA is on wed + engineering desing presentation preparation

Wed: Heat Transfer CA (test) + LDP finance acc. closing meeting (acc closing for this sem events) + Project L.O.V.E 13th meeting

Thurs: 1 concept presention for Engineering Design + weekly WSC boys' hostel session + LDP EXCO meeting (got to give it a miss becos of my WSC session)

Sat: Maybe meeting JPS teacher-in-charge for BP-mentoring + fetch yuli to the tuition venue + university forum for bp mentoring + meeting cousin minmin for farewell dinner (she's leaving for Australia at the age of 10 for rope-skipping competition!)

Sun: Flea Market for Project L.O.V.E Fund- Raising + hope to study a bit to set the momentum for the recess week (mean 'catch-up' week).

*I can't imagine...I'm typing this entry in which is a couple of hours to my CA at 1.30pm!!!

Oh...as what some of my friends know, in my university studies, in year 3, I'm currently a:

1) Honorary General Secretary aka Hon. Gen. in Leadership Development Program (LDP)

elaborate: It's more of handling admin work like i'm doing for my division society - MDES Society in Ngee Ann Poly. Besides admin work, I'm also taking the role of treasurer. That's explained why my designation is that long! Aside from the adminstrative work, I would like to help out events and attend program to further develop me as a leader! And LDP can be regarded as my saviour at the start of my university life. I undergo extreme stress and 'he' lends me a helping hand by giving ms support! Honestly, I think if without 'he', I would have just let go and leave NTU.

2) Secretary in LDP - Project L.O.V.E 2008 (Community Service trip to Cambodia this dec.)

elaborate: Since I've been in the secretarial dept for 2007 trip, I continue my role as a secretary in the team. My job scope is 'sama sama' to the normal secretary job like minutes-taking & establish communication between members and also to support the team leader and asst. team leader.

Recently, I propose to take on a new fund-raising project on the sale of branded 2nd hand clothes from the old clothes & bags collection. The branded clothes are not supposed to be brought over the Cambodia as the needy people who wear them will be robbed on the street in big daylight! Can U believe that! And we can replace it with Karang Guni in terms that it's smaller scale and need less manpower. We are aiming at the Sept Lime Flea Market!

3) Program OIC for UNI-For-The-NEW-U (a academic peer support program for the School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE))

elaborate: It's a program initiated by me as I've went through so much as a direct-entry student and I really want to lend a helping hand to the juniors! This program does not only applied to the direct-entry freshies; it's for Yr 1 too!

Basically, it's stablised now and I've a good asst. OIC cum Peer Tutoring IC, Rudy, a hardworking Mass Tutoring IC and definitely a excellent team! And we just had a launch session last friday for Peer Tutoring and we got quite a number who came especially glad when people came to register only as they've lessons on that day. The momentum had set. Now, it's just going with the flow and focusing on the Mentors & Mentees gathering during the recess friday.

4) Member in Welfare Social Service (WSC) in Regular Service Project (RSP)- Youth for Boy's Hostel

elaborate: That's my love for it! Love to help other especially the needy youths/children. Boys' Hostel is actually a lighter version of Boys' Home so the boys are somehow hard to handle...

But currently, I'm very attached to this boy who I'm very proud to say that I see him take the initiative to help himself on top of my help and advice in the area of studies and character building... He's ever curious about how life out there...and I told him the life in university & polytechnic which make him interested to go to polytechnic maybe after his ITE education. Before that, (or can say it's now), he must cope with his studies 1st for the coming 'N' level! And he ever told me he wants to be a Mechanical Engineer like me! That's very touching! And that's make my commitment to him ever the cca pts is 3 (not enough to cover my pts to secure a room in hostel).

In addition, Desmond, the new IC, he's making several improvements for the sessions what had...but so far... he's still working on it (real hard until he stressed!).

NEW! 5) Vice President aka VP in NTUSU BP-Mentoring Club/Scheme

elaborate: I had rejected the 'President' post given my busy cca status plus to concentrate on my studies. I was nominated by Hafiza, the outgoing president and even being approached by her. Oh! But! I was enlighted by Susan when she told me... "Why not you try out taken by higher post rather than Secretary all the time! You've been always there and doing the same thingy... Take it up and can really learn the real leadership!".

The night before the awards appreciation ceremony, I sms Hafiza that I might consider VP. On the ceremony itself, she annouced it and gave me a shock! But I think...Since I've made the move to sms Hafiza, I should have wanted this post very much! And it's actually my dream in my poly days to always stay with BP-Mentoring as this is the 1st cca that really bring me into serious community work. Now, I can even take the lead! Pray hard that I can do well and get along with the President as I have never engage a long conversation with him! I've so much to share with him about my vision, mission and my plan! ahahah!

I think this will be what I'll say if I really can't make it for any outings! So sincere apologies beforehand if I really couldn't make it! Haha!!!

Hey! I really need more advices as you know my situation of coping with my failing studies and over-active cca portfoilo! Remember!

Work & Travel USA Talk

Because of this talk, I pon my Project L.O.V.E meeting! Haha...Nevertheless, it's indeed a fulfilling one by having all the basic information needed. I love the sharing session from these types of overseas working/learning trips as I got to see wonderful pictures and 'live' with them(so called as if I stay with them)!

After the introduction, the sharing session follows next! 1st up is a sharing by 2 close friends who went to Melbourne to work as shop assistants at Yellowstone National Park. From the presentation, both of them present in a unique way (rather personal) to bring out the 'feel' of how they led their interesting life there with the fantastic pictures!

Next up is a yr 4 guy who went to Kings' Dominion (amusement park) to work as a lifeguard! He presented to us a exciting video of his whole trip! Wow...really show all the work-stuffs & fun-stuffs he and his colleagues went! Below is the video I found in Youtube (in which I think it's the shorter edition) that is similar to what he shows us!

Project L.O.V.E Eclairs Sale (18th to 20th)

!!! Start Work! Everyone helped to bring the eclairs, banners, posters, fridge, display case & stationary to our booth outside LT 1 at 8.30am. This eclairs sale is supported by SAC & MAE club during the MAE week.

The booth will last for 3 days from 9am to 4.30pm! Most of the LDPians took turns to help out at the booth as well as 'peddle' sale at South Spine, old can A, study benches... After the 1st day, we received a surprise from our neighbouring booth, Jobstreet. They gave us all their free gift, Cleo magazines and we could give them out for any purchase!

Most of us spend our free periods, after sch time, waking up early to help at the booth...even lunching too... even queueing for MAE free lunch, free goodie bags... I can say it's hard to tend booth but it's nice to have a big company with you!

Our hard efforts are paid off by selling 12 big boxes of eclairs & all boxes of cream puffs and raising $800+ and a lot of donations of bags and clothes!

And I personally learn quite a lot from this booth tending... Learn to attract people to buy either at the booth or for peddle sale. And must have a lot of courage to talk to people especially making announcement at LT. =D Because of this sale, I think i'm closer with the MAE office staffs in which might make administrative matters with MAE easier?

Countdown to Eclair Sale for Project L.O.V.E Fund-raising (17th Aug)

It's a day before the long-prepared Project L.O.V.E Fund-Raising - Eclairs Sale. We're turned down by SAO (Student Activities Office) as we don't have proposal. Now, we had as we had confirmed our destination to Baray, Cambodia.

Some of the Project L.O.V.E teammies came forward to help to pack the eclairs after the arrival of the 1st batch of order (8 boxes - each box of 14 packs of 12 eclairs)! We are selling $3 for 5 pieces and $6 for 12 pieces. We are also selling cream puffs for $6 per box of 18 pieces.

The poster/display boards are made the day before too...& also the arrival of my display case (the kind whereby you get cans of cold drinks from) It's donated by my aunt! And my papa helped me to bring over to school.

That day is a important day for all Singaporeans as the table tennis team is completed in the finals for either a silver or gold olympics!!! And so everyone is watching tv in LDP Room to witness the historical moment!

I've an interesting conversation with my china friends -

Me: Wow...this match is very important for Singapore as it might be the 1st gold olympics medal in Singapore history or might be the 2nd sliver medal too!
China friends: Oh REally?
Me: if we win, we might have a public holiday tomolo!

China friends: Wow...then China can afford to lose as we want the holiday!
Me: But I think it's hard! Cos China so strong. But our singapore team is 'made in china'

China friends: Har! REally! Singapore team members are from China! China team is indeed strong so I think hard to win too!

Me: Ya! That's why or might be that that we can go to the finals?

Me: Ahaha! Singapore lose le!
China friends: It's okay. The next Olympics Singapore can try again!

Me: Ya true! So now, Singapore record for Olympics medals are 2 sliver medals since our participation!
China friends (shocked): WHAT! For Olympics 2008, China had 30+ gold medals...should be 30+!
Me (embarrassed): Haha! Then you all should give Singapore a chance to break our record.
China friends: We can. But if we do so, all the medals will be gone...

Choa Chu Kang Community Club Open House

As most of my friends know I'm staying very near CCK CC, the bursting loud sound system actually wake my whole family wake in the early morning! Nevertheless, this brings convenience for us to know what's really going on there... by just look out of the window.

I went down with my mum to check out what's up at the Open House. Weaving through the crowds, residents of all ages were there for the joyous occasion and always the freebies and offers! 50% on PAssion Card application (free a 20% voucher to Zoo), various booths to promote on CC events, different ethnic group exhibitions, free photo-taking, free karaoke-singing, games and $1 for a tray of eggs, free titbits, free drinks...and many more!!!

In order to get most of the freebies, one need to collect 8 chops from the various booths...haha! Mummy and I simply skip skip skip. Then, we went up to take pic with the nice CCK CC open house border. After that, we went upstairs to the open space to see see and happen to be in the queue to purchase of a tray of 10 eggs for a dollar! I spotted the henna booth and went forward to get myself 'drawn'! OoO... Lastly, we went the indian exhibition area to learn how to make jasmine flowers gland, some decorations to be hanged up for occasions and get a free indian 'sweet'

Besides that, there were a outdoor and indoor performance by the schools and residents in CCK. And I happened to meet my taewondo seniors (in levels of belts) but also my juniors (based on education level)! They were down for tkd demo to attract more people to join tkd! It's nice to meet them and have some words with them as I hadn't been for practices for a long long time! In the nearby HDB void deck, flea market was on-going.

NTU Welcome Week 2008

It could be counted as the biggest event in NTU annually to welcome the freshies! Whereby there would be ECA fair and bazaars from 12-14th Aug, 9am -4.30pm.

This year, NTUSU (SU means student union) is given out goodies bags generously for 2 sessions each day for all 3 days! Besides the sponsored items and vouchers, there are free bottles of coke zero and SU dry-fit tee & singlets too! I love the tee. Nicely designed and comfortable to wear! The goodies bag was gotten by surprise when I approached the booth to ask for sometime and the person presented that to me. The 2nd day, I queued with my juniors to attain the dry-fit-tee.

On sale, there are apparels, computer care & IT products, foodstuffs, decoration, stationary, 2nd hand items, cheap textbooks & storybooks, insurance, health care, ocbc debit card promotion, eye care & products, accessories & jewelleries and more...!

This year is rather different for me as I've my 'cca' booth to tend... Definitely for LDP but it's not exactly a cca booth. It's just help APSN (Association for People with Special Needs) to raise fund by selling the handmade products (made by the students who are 'less-mentally-able') like...hand-painted mugs, bookmarks, paper weights, piggy magnets, winner magnets (winner quotes on it), happy magnets (quotes of happiness on it), orchids coasters, badges with meaning quotes and more... Sch starts le!!! Time flies... I had been in NTU for 1 year le! And I'm progressing to my 3rd year! All have to attend lectures, laboratory work, electives on the 1st week except for tutorials.

I think the highlights for the 1st sem of each academic year are:

~I went for the library online resources workshop and get to walk away with a thurs-only MOS tix.
- CCA Fair
~This is a must must see for me as a person that can't live without cca.

~Oh! I also join in the fun to vote for candidates that I think they fit? Click here to see my post! This year...I can vote too and supporting my friend, He Shu as the VP of MAE Club!
- Talks by Counselling Centre
~I was a big supporter to the talks provided as I'm facing stress from academic work and problems adapting to the new sch environment... And...really help!

Another highlight of everyone favourite is.... Add/Drop Period!

It is a period whereby NTU students add subjects and drop subjects in STARS under Studentlink. It's a 'survival skill' in order to get what you want and dispose what you don't want! Starting from the 1st day of school, the distribution of usage is priortised for the Yr 4 and then Yr 3, Yr 2 and Yr 1...

As usual, this hot favourite induce tension among the LDPians. We did my add-drop in LDP Room and...u can hear yelling, screaming and maybe crying? there...

Have to wait how long more....

Short joke from the movie...

Above is the trailer...After the good response from the 1st movie, the 2nd is now up! As funny as the 1st one, it reflects on the hard facts whereby many singaporeans are facing. Reality scenes that really touch our hearts and laugh our heads off most of the times! It's very hokkien, chinese, singlish but different races came and enjoy with the subtitles.

To many, the storyline is just as expected and movie backgrounds ain't that magnificent. It's the originality that counts.

Worth the money to wash given the long long duration (no one actually left as the ending parts show the NG scenes and seriously...laugh until the very very end). Remember to prepare some tissues for overreactive laughs (laugh until tears are out...)

I received this map of the future development of Singapore MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) from my friend whose sister is working in LTA a few years ago. The orange circle line and the extension from Boon Lay station are currently working on...

The multiple linkages and lines of the stations seem to shorten the travelling time from one part of Singapore to another part. But! Don't you think it's getting more and more complex and messy like the one in Japan? For me, I think the MRT lines should remain at its current state after completion of the current projects given our efficient bus transportation system.

Recently, more and more issues arised from this new development of the MRT...

Hmmm... 27th July is Susan's bdae! I just only inform her that it's my date with her only! And caught her with big surprise with the rest of the ldpians turning up! Besides me and her, ldpians who came are the another bdae gal, Yan Li, Shao Cong, Roy, Xie Wei, Adrian, Boon Yen, Bao Xin and Yuli were waiting for us at Sushi Tei. After dinner, it's their bdae celebration with the brownie cake and many gifts!

Ordered yummy food and joking around...A merry merry time we had at the restaurant.

Post dinner hangout is at the top level deck at Vivocity; looking out to the magnificient seaview and catching glimpses of Sentosa. In the mid of our happy hangout, muthiah popped out! He's the last gift for the gals! Hmmm..ending the day with the chit-chatting at the wooden benches.

We had a wonderful time far away from campus and...sch reopening soon...

The X-Files - I want to believe

It's my 1st thriller movie watched! It's nice but the storyline resemble the normal TV drama serial sequence surrounding a theme of the missing FBI agent. Although there are some disturbing scenes (eg. chopped arm, human head, surgeries...), they are not that bad as in one will have nights and nights of scary nightmares.

In search of the missing FBI agent, mysteries, suspense, excitements, thrills will definitely be in and something very interesting.... is believing in supernatural phenomenas especially in communicating with gods to find out her whereabouts... In the 'mist' of the silence and cool... there are warm moments whereby the movie characters care and worry for each other. The 'heartlander' phrase of advice, 'Don't Give Up' is being related to one of the characters, Dana Scully, by Father Joseph Crissman and help her with the search for Fox Mulder and her career too.

Seen this 'heavily-guarded' gate when you are on the bus/car going to Plaza Singapura Shopping Centre or The Cathay Building or to SMU? This gate will lead to The Istana, the official residence of the President where he receives and entertains state guests. The entire domain occupies over 100 acres and is located along the busy Orchard Road. Wondering how it look like inside?
